Javier Sánchez-Prieto has assumed the position of Executive President of Iberia, effective September 09, replacing Luis Gallego who just a day before has been appointed CEO of International Airlines Group (IAG), to which the Spanish airline belongs.
Sánchez-Prieto was until now President and CEO of Vueling and had already worked in Iberia between 2013 and 2016 as Director of Strategic Planning and Finance, from where he led the Future Plan that meant the return to profitability after several consecutive years of losses, as highlighted in a note from the company.
“It is an honour and a great satisfaction to return to Iberia, despite the difficult times the industry is going through. The Iberia team has shown in recent years that it is capable of facing all kinds of challenges and difficulties, managing to write a success story in recent years. I am sure that all together we will succeed one more time,” stated Javier.
Javier Sánchez-Prieto has a degree in Economics and Business from the Complutense University and a Technical Aeronautical Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
During his first stage in Iberia as Director of Strategic Planning and Finance, he led the company’s Future Plan, which led to a return to profitability after several consecutive years of losses.
Previously, he worked at Iberia Express, where he was part of the company’s launch team, with responsibility for the areas of Strategic Planning, Finance, Purchasing, Systems, Fleet, Human Resources and Legal Advice.
Before Iberia Express, Javier worked at Grupo Uralita having different responsibilities within the Strategy area and also as General Director of Business; and had his first contact with the world of aviation at Air Nostrum, where he worked first in Maintenance and later in the area of Strategic Planning and Management Control.
