A cargo freighter departed from Mandalay International Airport (MDY) in Myanmar on February 26, 2020, for the first time. The special cargo flight was arranged by DB Schenker for one of its European retail customers.

This is a significant step for DB Schenker’s airfreight solution in Myanmar. Previously, only passenger flights were available for cargo shipments from Mandalay Airport, one of Myanmar’s three international airports. Mandalay is the second-largest city in Myanmar, after Yangon, and is strategically situated in the center of the country which makes it an important transport hub.

DB Schenker is the first logistics company in Myanmar to organize a freighter operation from Mandalay Airport. “Thanks to the outstanding co-operation with the airport authorities and the ground handling team, we ensured excellent additional service to one of our key customers,” said Tin Maung Oo, Head- Air Freight, DB Schenker Myanmar.

Due to its strategic location in the middle of the country, Mandalay Airport is easily accessible. As such, it is an excellent alternative gateway for Yangon International Airport that is experiencing continued strong air traffic growth.

The DB Schenker team took care of the trucking and customs clearance at MDY airport. The team was also closely involved in overseeing the ground handling, palletisation and cargo build up. The entire freight operation took 3 days to complete.
